Course Selection Frequently Asked Questions

What if I was absent when we got this information in class?

Video instructions are included for the 7th and 8th grade course selections. The videos are from previous years but still have most of the same information. You can also contact your student's counselor if you still have questions.

Do I have a better chance of getting the electives I want if I complete my form sooner?

No. Schedules will be built later after all electives requests are entered. You just need to complete your form before the deadline that the counselors will give you.

What if I am planning to audition for the musical or I am hoping to take the RISE Elective, Girls' Garage, or Virtual Academy classes?
The forms will ask you about your interest in these classes. If you are cast in the musical or enrolled in one of these other classes, your schedule will be adjusted later.

What if I want to be a TA?
You can indicate on the form if you are interested in a TA position next school year. If you are assigned a TA position, your schedule will be adjusted at that time.

Are the Jeffco Virtual Academy foreign language classes right for me (8th grade only)?
Jeffco Virtual Academy is the district's online class. Students who request these classes should be independent workers with a strong work ethic. Since the JVA teacher is not in the classroom giving direct instruction every day, these students will need to learn how to manage their time well and stay caught up with the work assigned for these classes.

If I am not attending EMS next school year, should I still complete a course selection form?
Yes. If you move schools, your classes will be removed. However, if your plans change and you do come back to EMS, you will still have your requested classes.
