Counselor for 7th Grade A-K & all 8th Grade

About Mr. Major:
This is my 4th year at EMS and I love being a Ram! Prior to working at EMS, I was a school counselor at another middle school in Denver and, before that, I was a paraprofessional in Jeffco.

Although I was born in Virginia, I grew up in Colorado Springs, so I am almost a Colorado native. I went to Colorado Christian University for a degree in psychology and The University of Phoenix for my master's in school counseling. I also recently completed a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Miami University.

Outside of working at EMS, I volunteer for an organization called Young Life and I volunteer at the Denver Zoo. I enjoy photography and I love playing disc golf, ultimate Frisbee, and baseball. I love being outside and I love being in or around water. I love to travel, too, and the coolest place I've visited was the rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. I have taken EMS students to Costa Rica and I am excited to continue leading trips around the world. I have a cat named Simon and two crested geckos. I also love birds of prey, especially owls.

I am looking forward to another great school year at EMS!

Counselor for 7th Grade L-Z & all 6th Grade

About Ms. Teves:
This is my 2nd year at EMS and I am so happy to continue my time as a Ram! I am looking forward to welcoming a new 6th grade class this year, in addition to continuing my work with half of 7th grade. Before EMS, I was a counselor at Arvada West High School and Golden High School in Jeffco.

I was born in Seattle, WA and moved to Albuquerque, NM when I was 10 years old. After graduating high school, I attended Tennessee Tech University on a volleyball scholarship. I was lucky enough to have a mentor at TTU who encouraged me to do a school counseling internship and that was where I fell in love with this profession! I found my way to Colorado because of graduate school where I received my Master’s in Counseling Psychology from the University of Denver.

When I am not at work, I really enjoy being active. I play in a couple volleyball leagues with my friends, I attend CrossFit classes, and I love going on walks and hikes with my dog, Koa. Relaxing on the couch with a good book is also a pastime I can’t get enough of. I love adventuring to new places and I like challenging myself to try new things, especially things that are out of my comfort zone. This year, my goal is to learn how to skateboard!

I can’t wait for a great 2018-19 school year at EMS!
